Construction of a stable and convenient transportation system
1. STSP E-shuttle bus
In addition to providing different lines of shuttle buses for commuting passengers and those taking to and from trips between TRA Nanke Station or HSR Tainan Station. To better meet the users' demand, the STSP Shuttle Bus Green line (HSR Line) even combines the Demand Responsive Transportation System (DRTS) to receive reservation one hour before departure and picks up passengers at the shuttle bus stops in all plants in addition to the fixed bus schedules and station rides. It is recommended to download the APP, Science Park Action Wizard 2.0, and click on STSP for the real-time information of the STSP shuttle bus and other related riding information.
In view of the continuous increase in the number of employees in Kaohsiung Park and to encourage manufacturers in Kaohsiung Park to use public transportation and to reduce traffic congestion for carbon emission reduction in the park, STSP Bureau started an additional Kaohsiung Park–Gangshan South Line from October 16, 2023 to address the needs for STSP Shuttle Bus from MRT Gangshan South Station to Kaohsiung Science Park. The shuttle bus is available from Monday to Friday during rush hours in the morning, afternoon, and also at night, with a total of 6 trips available. Detailed riding information is available on STSP Bureau website or by downloading the APP, Science Park Action Wizard 2.0.
In 2023, the average daily number of passengers was about 1,202, the daily mileage of diesel vehicles was about 1,456.82 km/day, and that of the e-shuttle bus was about 753.43 km (the e-bus can averagely reduce the diesel consumption by about 188.36 liters every day; the mileage of e-bus per 1 liter of gasoline can run 4 km), reducing approximately 152.57 kgCO2e. The overall carbon reduction was 434.47 tons.

2. STSP Cloud Traffic Control Center
The STSP Cloud Traffic Control Center has been built in the park to collect information of long-term traffic flow, turning movement data, and travel times on GVP segments through AI image recognition cameras at major intersections to understand congestion and bottleneck points on major roads in the park. Diverse data is used as a basis for decision making to design proper traffic signal timings that align with the traffic characteristics at the sites to increase the traffic efficiency of main roads, effectively reducing travel time for people to enter and leave the park area. The analysis results show that the traffic flow on the road sections where the traffic signal timings have been fine tuned in the park increased by 2% compared with before, and the reduction in fuel consumption after conversion is equivalent to 12,077 liters/year, reducing 15.80 tons of carbon emission/year (equivalent to planting 1,580 trees). According to statistics in 2023, information of 41 accidents was released by the center, and the time saved by diverting traffic to reduce traffic congestion reached 10.25 hours (615 minutes).

Commencement of Access Roads
The access roads of Tainan Science Park have been commenced successively. On the east side, there is the South Route 137 road widening project and the expropriation project of Sections F and G for STSP specific development zone – the northern section of South Route 137, with a total length of 1.8 kilometers, starting from Lane 153, Zhongzheng Road, Shanhua District in the north, and connects to the intersection of Lane 12, Dashun 6th Road, in the south. It was open to traffic on November 14, 2023. The current 10-meter-wide road have been widened to 15 meters, which effectively shortens the drive by about 5 minutes to improve a smoother traffic environment in the surrounding area of the park.
The Sinckan Blvd. Diversion Project on the south side has entered the acceptance stage. When it is open at the end of February, 2024, it will alleviate traffic flow at the junction of National Highway 8 and the access road to the park, which will effectively shorten the driving time by about 2 minutes, facilitating the flow of traffic entering and leaving the park.
